DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy to Host Workshop for Universities
WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday, August 19, 2008, U.S. Department of Energy’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Shane Johnson will welcome 52 universities to the 2009 Office of Nuclear Energy University Program Workshop. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Johnson is expected to highlight the important role America’s universities play in advancing nuclear energy technology.
The two day workshop will provide an opportunity for universities to learn about the new Nuclear Energy University Program for Fiscal Year 2009. The new program will allocate 20% of funds appropriated to the Office of Nuclear Energy’s research and development (R&D) programs for work to be performed at university and research institutions, and to integrate universities with DOE national laboratories conducting R&D in support of the Office of Nuclear Energy Programs. Participants will have an opportunity to engage in discussions with DOE national laboratories about the various nuclear energy R&D projects they are leading for the Department.
